Cheney Talks Traffic - Interview

Michael Cheney Talks Traffic - Interview With A Traffic Expert

Michael Cheney, one of the most-respected names in Internet marketing, has been online since 1995 and is the man behind the 6-Figure launches of AdSense Videos and 11 Days To List Profits. He has unveiled a new videos product - "Michael's" Traffic Videos" which covers everything to do with traffic and comes with 100,000 instant ad credits and a tailored Fast-Track To Traffic Action Plan.

We managed to grab some time with him recently and quiz him on his favorite topic - traffic.

You'll get a lot out of this interview including a killer 40-page E-book on traffic that Michael has written to help you avoid the Top 20 Traffic Disasters!

So let's get started.

Q. Firstly Michael, thank you for joining us today in your busy schedule.

A. Hey no problem. Good to be here.

Q. We all know that traffic is important but could you just explain a bit about traffic for the beginners out there?

A. Sure. Traffic is the lifeblood of any business online. Without it you just die. We all know that. But what a lot of us don't realize is that just like everything else on the Internet traffic changes very quickly. That is, the methods of getting traffic are changing all the time and that's where people get caught out.

Q. What do you mean by "caught out"?

A. Well people fall into the trap of thinking that just because they know one or two traffic generation methods that they are some sort of traffic master. In reality just because you know how to start a pay per click campaign or a little bit about search engines doesn't make you anywhere near a traffic expert. I'm trying to spread the word that there is a massive array of traffic tactics that most people aren't even aware of, let alone using or mastering.

Q. Can you give us some examples?

A. Sure. Offline for example. You might immediately think that getting traffic is a purely online activity but the truth of the matter is that there are lots of things you can be doing offline to get people into your website. And it's usually these sorts of areas that are being under-utilized and therefore there is less competition for that traffic as well.

Q. So by offline you mean advertising offline?

A. Not necessarily. That is one method, yes, but I'm thinking of more creative ways to get people into your website. It all comes down to the fact that having asked people on my list it came as no surprise that most people want to know about free rather than paid traffic sources. I've had to become an expert in free ways of getting traffic in my time online.

Q. What do you mean - I thought you were running a successful online business with lots of cash flow?

A. I am. But it's not always been this way. When I first started out in 1995 I had nothing. No money to play with. Just my own initiative and imagination.

Q. So are you saying you're against paying for traffic online?

A. No. No I'm not saying that at all. What I'm saying is that, especially when you first start out, you always want to focus on the free methods. You get the traffic in for free, make some sales and then you can reinvest some of that money into paid methods of getting traffic. This speeds up the process.

Q. So what particular offline methods are you referring to - can you give us some examples?

A. There's one tactic I used that costs nothing to implement, is relatively quick and ended up getting me thousands and thousands of targeted visitors into my websites. When I've shared this tactic with other marketers at seminars they've started laughing and slapping their foreheads when they saw how easy it was. They were also embarrassed that they had failed to use this tactic. It was quite amusing.

Q. So are you going to tell us what this method is?

A. No! (laughs) It's in my course! I truly believe in rewarding those people that are most eager to learn so instead of giving away all my traffic tactics in interviews like this I've put some of them in an E-Book I've written. It is free though if people want to get it.

Q. So how can people get hold of it?

A. It's called "How To Avoid The Top 20 Traffic Disasters" and you can get it by going to Michael's" Traffic Videos - you'll see it mentioned on that page.

Q. What's in it?

A. Well I really wanted to raise the bar on a free E-Book so I spent a lot of time creating it. It's 40 pages long and stuffed with juicy content on what NOT to do when it comes to traffic. As far as I'm concerned too many people out there tell you what you should do but not what you shouldn't do. That's where this E-Book comes in.

Q. Okay. I think we're about done is there anything else you want to tell everyone?

A. Just that if they are serious about getting more traffic into their website they need to goto Michael's" Traffic Videos and get that free E-Book.

Q. Cool. Well thanks for your time Michael and speak to you soon.

A. My pleasure. Speak soon.

Ebay

Ebay - surely you've heard of it.....the largest auction site on the internet. Its a really great place to start getting your feet wet if you're new to the world wide web. Try buying a couple of items, and then selling a few; it really lets you see how simple the concept is. If you want to know more about Ebay then check out our pages at:
http://www.workingsolo.co.uk/Getting_started_on_Ebay.htm

Do however read the cautionary sections, i.e. number one rule is to know your buyer/seller - check their star rating and then preferably make all your transactions through Paypal. Yep, I know there's a small fee involved, but it really makes the whole process so much safer and easier. Plus you can go back at Paypal and check all your payments/receipts for the last year with instant access to any transaction details you might need.

Likewise with Ebay, it is so easy to follow your sales and purchases on your account and keep track of everything. The feedback system creates a "checks and balances" which allows others to better know their seller/buyer.
One caveat - sometimes things don't always go quite as smoothly as you may like - try emailing the buyer/seller involved before leaving bad feedback. Nine times out of ten there's a simple answer, which can be resolved with no problems.

Go try it - you'll like it!

How Lucky....

How Lucky can one be.......No.....life is not a beach, although as I sit here in my home/office looking out at the beach, I realize that there are many things that I can feel fortunate for.
I guess when we click on to the next exciting offer we feel that this time we'll be lucky, maybe we will, though usually its somewhat of a let down in the end. But with each offer we build more experience and slowly but surely the jigsaw puzzle starts coming together.
Getting rich on the internet is not a sure-fire thing, but it sure beats the chances of winning the lottery, and its much more rewarding. Providing good content and leads are beneficial to the internet community and will encourage more users to log on.
Stick in there, we might not make fortunes but we'll have fun, learn lots and maybe even help somebody along the way:-)

Internet Based Business

You know there are three things that have to happen for you to make money in an internet based business.

Number one you need to have a great product for sale.
Number two you need to get traffic to your website .
Number three once that traffic is there you need to be able to convert them from prospects to buyers.
Of the three, a great product is most important and can be all the difference between an average and a successful business.
No amount of marketing is going to make up for not having a killer product.

What if I could tell you that the secret to making an insane amount of money, with instant products, was literally at the tips of your fingers? What if I told you that it's absurdly simple? How much would that be worth to you?
"But what do I sell?" you may ask. "And what will make me the most money, the kind of product that may earn me Thousands of Pounds."
Private Label Reports and Content is the answer.
What exactly is the Private Label Report and how I can profit from it?

Well, visit this website to find out.

What you need to know for Online Success

Hey Guys,
In the beginning there was the marketer. There are certain truths you come to understand the more time you spend making money online – or trying to.
Witness the evolution of marketing online. Whether you are new to the net game or an experienced pro, there is one thing you will have in common if you are moving towards entrepreneurial success.
As you read this article you will realize what you have in common with all the other major earners online, and what you’re missing that can take you from where you are to where you want to be. There's plenty more detail in The Resource Report, but let’s get started shall we?

I will begin with a bullet point list and short explanation of the marketing necessities you want to have:

For starters, most established markets will already be using this by default:

- A Domain: something specific to what you want to promote like
(http:// www.workingsolo.co.uk)

- Hosting: a place to put your site, if you’re planning on making money – find a paid solution so you look like a credible business and you cut back on high traffic crashes.

- A website: your image your presence and your marketing message, don’t get pulled into the trap I see everywhere of trying to put too many choices on your website. Maximize on the effectiveness by only giving one purpose to a page. For example if you want to build a list - focus all your efforts and copy on that singular focus, if you want your site to sell a product, then only put that focus on your site. You’ll also need a good editing program, and an ftp software to get this up and moving.

- A merchant account: If you have something to sell, people will need a way to pay you. There are a ton of great providers out there, but there are a specific few that give your visitors the security to pull out a credit card with assurance.

- An Autoresponder: This is a real necessity if you want a business and not just a hobby. When you have a family to support this is a real no brainer. This is your email follow up service. You get a name added to your list and this is where they go. You will use this to stay in touch and build relationships with your customers and soon-to-be customers.

- A helpdesk: in the beginning when your business and sales are small you can handle all the little questions and emails yourself. One of the things that will keep a small business is small is thinking “I can do that myself” if you want to truly grow; you need to share the workload (petty tasks) and focus on what you truly want to do creatively for your business.

- Membership Site software: once you’re addicted to the internet marketing lifestyle, you will realize this oh-so-simple fact, it’s great to make a sale, but it’s even better to make a sale once and get paid for it every month. Continuity is king.

Teleconference software: If you want an easy way to create and crank out high ticket products, audios and a transcript is an easy to make, high-value product.

Of course everything we’ve touched on so far only scratches the surface, but these are the necessities that not only get you started but will make you above average. Keep your eyes peeled for more articles that will take you from beginner to winner.
We’ll cover resources that will help you stay organized and expand your business to make you truly prosperous such as:
-PDF creators and converters- Mind mapping software- Site tools to make your business a set and forget it – money magnet- Internet video and audio creating software- And the how-to’s of outsourcing
Keep learning, and most important: be persistent – it will be a quality you share with the biggest money makers online today…

Traffic

That magic word....Traffic!
To the pedestrian it conjures up noisy, smoky, bothersome vehicles that interfere with their day; but to the entrepreneur on the internet, its the life blood that is sought after.
The more the traffic, the happier the web-meister.
The question is how to get the traffic.
Build bigger roads.
You can't expect to get much traffic if you restrict it to a small one lane road.
And you'll get even less if you make the road so windy and bumpy that the vehicle can't stay on it.
Your internet traffic needs a clear, smooth , at least two lane highway ( four or more would be great - so long as you're set up to handle the flow).
And when the traveller comes to the end of the road, ( though always leave options for further trips to be taken), there should be a good reward that will be talked about.
As with building highways, take time to make the foundations firm, the signage precise ( so they know where they're going and the scenery interesting.
Happy Trails!

Pie in the Sky...

Is all this just pie in the sky......you know, promises of making a fortune online?
Its obviously possible, but not easy. Follow this, do that, part from some more of your hard earned money in the hope that the next offer will be the one to launch your successful career online. It does have one thing going for it , and that's a learning curve on various computer skills, marketing techniques and human nature.....that still comes through loud and clear. It doesn't take to long to spot the weasels, the more difficult ones are the werewolves - they seem to be just the ones you want to believe in, but they change their facade if you look closely.
The reason they're so successful is that they have our money....sometimes well spent, but many times just another possible path to fortune.
What's the answer then?
Follow the path you fell most comfortable with, spend your money wisely,do'nt expect to make a fortune in three weeks time, and at the very least enjoy what you're doing and get satisfaction from learning, hopefully earning and doing the best you can.
A combination of offline and online an be a good way to achieve your goals.
And seeing as how its Easter....don't put all your eggs in one basket:-)

We're in the Money!

We're in the Money and that's a fact.
There's more than enough out there for everyone....just how to go about getting your fair share is the question.
Be honest...its a fact, if you build your business on honesty, whether online or offline you know you'll be on solid ground; because you never know what tomorrow will bring, and as on wag once said, if you always tell the truth you don't have to worry about what you said, and when:-)
Work hard.....there's no free lunch. I used to work for an insurance outfit that had this as their corporate theme...and its true. There is always a cost, even if its hidden, and knowing this is very powerful. This is not to say don't accept freebies, but realize that there is always some kind of hidden agenda...which might be quite beneficial...but look carefully.
Take short cuts by all means, if you know they will take you to where you want to go. Just make sure they're not taking you through 'quicksand' and getting you deeper in than you expected!
Respect your customer, client, or whoever you might be dealing with. They are people just like you, and although being on the web manages to make us think otherwise at times, we all share the same world in our own ways.
Be careful and watch your back, while respect is important, don't be fooled by charlatans and scammers. Hold onto your wallet or purse just as you would in a crowded street. There are many out there who would happily part you from your hard earned cash without a second thought. If you're buying or trading online you should definitely have a firewall, anti-virus software, spyware and even rootkit eliminators....and they should be up-to-date at all times. It's a bit like have a smoke detector in your home and never testing it.

Well these are a few thoughts on getting to be in the money - take the path that you feel comfortable with, and prosper!

A New Start

Well, A New Start for Working Solo. The site is revamped and is online ....its an exciting time. There are so many directions one wants to go in, but the main one is for the easiest way for the budding entrepreneur to get an online business underway.
Its a straightforward deal once one's up and running, but getting there can be a rocky road to say the least. The trick is to get enough information without being overloaded and then taken down other paths, which seem useful at the time, but really end up becoming a red herring.
The whole thing is a task.....but if one enjoys being online, and computers in general, then its worth the effort.
There's a cost to it as well, but hopefully in the end the balance will fall in your favour:-)

Its like walking on hot coals....

Picking out what one should or shouldn't purchase to advance one's way to internet success is like walking on hot coals.....one needs to be very aware, very surefooted, and also fairly speedy on one's feet.
I've pretty much honed in on just a couple of internet guru's, and even so find the amount of possible information to be quite considerable.....and possible outlay on further reports on traffic, site-building and tele-conferences to be substantial.
There ain't no free lunch, but I don't plan to dine out in style every day either - it's a delicate balance, partly decided by available funds and mainly by common sense and the division of time from day job to internet enterprises; my wish would be to have all day to attend to the internet, but reality says that bills have to be paid - my hope is that in time online funds will takeover from routine income.
Keep on:-)

Making money online

Making money online is really not that simple.....its a bit like lokking at your favourite actor/actress/singer etc., and thinking how easy they hae it. The truth is that they not only worked hard to get where they're at, but chances are they are still woking just as hard...with long hours and being in te public eye all the time.
I don't believe there is a simple and easy way to make money online.....it takes a lot of time and persistence, and even then a continuity of the same to maintain that income - but then its just reflecting life.....and its not to say that one doesn't enjoy doing these things - whether or not its online or off, working at what you enjoy doing is the key to a happy life.
I've been watching various Guru's of the internet, and can safely say there are very few that are totally upfront with this. Its not that they don't have anything to offer, or that they are weasels, but its a heck of a lot easier to make a sale with the easy-sell pitch rather than being straight out with the fact that they themselves have worked hard to get where they're at, and you'll have to do the same.
However, I have found that having the right tools for the job has made it a lot easier - and as in most jobs, the cheapest tools are not always the best!

Info overload...

I know, I harped on about this just a few days ago....but the information overload is really quite a problem. By the time ones gone through all the emails, information and w.h.y. it seems there's precious little time left to work on sites, marketing and the rest.
Listening to an audio buy Scheffren today, he quoted a university study that showed the amount of information we are open to in one week, is as much as one was exposed to in an entire lifetime just 200 years ago.

The problem is we haven't evolved that fast to absorb all this information; if you're like me, you get the new mobile phone with all the features and a handbook that's chunky, read up on the necessaries to use the phone, possibly the camera, and the rest gets left alone ( unless one gets kept waiting for an interminable time, so out comes the phone and manual - if it s still around - and maybe a couple more features get used).
I guess really this is the way most things will get handled....sort out the essentials and the rest gets left to the side.

"It is wise to look ahead but foolish to look further than you can see."

When it rains....

You know, when it rains it doesn't necessarily pour down. Sometimes the clouds have a silver lining.
Being in a business that relies on the weather, I often get frustrated by the rain.....but really, I find that it allows me time to catch up on things that need doing ( that I'd overlooked, or hadn't even seen), had time to re-evaluate situations and sometimes just get a good rest.
Today was such a day, the heavens opened and work stopped.
So I set off for a few items from a supplier some distance away....by the end of the visit I found I'd picked up many things that we'd been needing, and had said, we'll get it later, etc .; and in so doing managed to get rid of a lot of those little message men that run about in the back of one's head saying you must remember to get this.....and so on.
Well, not a bad day's work.....hope your's was also successful.

Stepping back

Sometimes one needs to step back from things and look. Its really quite difficult to do this subjectively, but it really is quite worthwhile.I've been following a coaching mp3 which has challenged me to do just this....take a step back and look at what I'm doing and why....where I'm going to and how I'm going to get there - its not as scary as it sounds once one gets started. Its really a realization of what's happening, rather than going along blindly.
Had this in my inbox today...try it out......
Sit down at your desk or wherever, raise your right foot and start moving it in a clockwise motion, now take your right hand and draw the figure 6 in the air, your foot will change direction!.
There's more to us than meets the eye:-)

A n-ewe blog

A n-ewe blog is in the offing....the blog site for www.SheepStories.co.uk which is also under production. This comes about from a long time story-telling of the adventures of an elderly ewe who can only be described as a cross between Grandma Giles and the late Queen Mother . Very fond of a tipple ( usually a G & T), follows the sport of Kings (horse-racing) and generally gets into all sorts of situations.
She is very useful as a scapegoat, whenever something might be missing, forgotten, broken, taken or whatever, its quite probable that Daphne (we call her Daffers ) is to blame.
There had been talk at the last General Election to nominate her for government - but it was felt that her proposition for school lunches to include a Happy Hour was going a little too far.
Well, watch out world...Daffers is going Online!

What happens when...

What happens when you don't use spell checker....you get a posting like the one I did yesterday - ouch! I guess I was a bit tired, but oh boy does it show.
Well, this one's going to not only be spell checked, but also rather short as its Friday night and the lights beckon:-)
Have a Good One.

Working websites

Well, another working website is online at www.mawgangardeners.co.uk ...ned to finish optimising the site, and also there's a bunch more to add to it, but at least its up and running.

I'm of the opinion that its better to get somethingdone and uploaded, than to wait until the whole thing is perfect and ready - as in my case, at least, it would probably be a while before anything went online. Plus I find it easier to add contentt when I see the site online.

Still trying to get to grips with header graphics...it looks simple enough, but the layers never seem to want to separate, delete or do anything at all when I'm dealing with premade headers, so I generally create my own from scratch.

Quote for today " Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm." Winston Churchill.

At a loss for words?

Could I really be at a loss for words? I don't think so, sometimes they come out jumbled up , a bit like a certain president who manages to take this to an art form, such as this one on my desk calendar: "If the the terriers and barrifs are torn down, this economy will grow."
It gives me hope that I can aspire to be a somebody one day:-)
Lately , I've taken to downloading teleconferences and the such on MP3 to my Ipod, to listen to during the day - frees up evening time on the computer and also allows one to rerun bits that are of interest. I did find out today tho', that listening to a Paul McKenna mind relaxation course is not something to keep the day moving....although I do find his books quite compelling. Its good to Live Life.

A troublesome type of day

Its been a troublesome type of a day. Minor things going wrong, such as lost keys just when ones heading out to work, the server deciding not to send email for one reason or another, an online order that's somehow messed up......but, at the end of it all, I guess its actually been a pretty good day. Lots of tasks accomplished, jobs completed and more potential orders in the pipeline.
Maybe if everything was plain sailing the day would have seemed a bit humdrum, successful but with no sparks : it takes a little adversity to liven things up and get the accomplishment feeling:-)

Tomorrow's just around the corner....

What A Weekend....

What a weekend - finally the individual bricks are starting to form a house (albeit, a small one), but after so long a time fighting with the vaguaries of different web publishers, FTP 's and the like, it's a breath of fresh air to finally tie everything together and be able to concentrate on the content of the sites, rather than worry as to whether or not its ever going to actually see the internet.
My joy is in finding Xsitepro as my stand-alone website software. It has combined everything into one,so that its straightforward to understand. There are video tutorials that I've found invaluable, as well as a full written tutorial and 400 page manual, all supported by an online knowledge base and help desk....all of which I use to guide me. Its maybe not the cheapest software out there, but its well worth the money and headaches it saves. www.coastalgardens.co.uk is now up and running and www.workingsolo.co.uk will be the next site to undergo the change.
Keep on building:-)

What a fool am I

What a fool am I - I've been fussing at not being able to upload some of my sites; been on to FAQs, emailed tech support and finally called the call center.......what had I been missing? '.' Yes, a '. ' in my instructions for uploading.
Life's like that too, one's looking for all these big reasons why thing aren't working out as they should: round and round we go, when all the time the answer is very small indeed.
The advice from the call center had been to check all the publishing details very carefully and its so easy to miss a '.' , a bit like looking for a needle in the haystack.
The good thing is that all but one of the sites is now functional, and high hopes for the final one to go live tomorrow.

Smiles and Hurrahs!

Slightly Embarrassed

Well, I'm slightly embarrassed to say the least...
I've been with my present web hosting company for four years and I always thought them a little on the lean side when it came to extras like hosting forums, guestbooks and etc. Well, they've been there the whole time - I had jumped to conclusions early on, and then never checked on them again.(Till Today!)
I'm now going back over everything else to find out what else I've been missing.
I guess it's very much akin to offline activities -one jumps to a conclusion and then doesn't stop to go back to square one and finds out that all the time one had missed that nugget of information.
It reminds me of way back when I was studying what was then known as Data Processing 101,and the first dictum of programming was ' Garbage In, Garbage Out'.......you get out of it what you put into it - sorta like life:-)
Persevere and Prosper.

Information overload

Suffering from information overload?
Currently emails run on average 100 + each day and what with news, ezines, software and internet lingo that seems to change daily.......is it a wonder one feels a tad overloaded.
Prioritizing seems to help...not getting sidetracked and still watching for those gems of information that come along is the real trick.
I guess we only use a very small capacity of our brain power, therfore this shouldn't really be a problem - however, getting the time to do all this is another matter!
Any suggestions or answers to the above would be gratefully received by the way.
Have a Great Day:-)

So much to do.....

So much to do, and so little time to do it all in....do you ever feel like this?
Running a full time business and trying to create websites on top....sometimes feels like an uphill task......however, I've pledged to at least do a little bit each day - and then when time allows I can really give it my all.
I love computers and the technology that goes with them...but oh boy, can they cause headaches:-( this item doesn't want to upload for publishing, or this header graphic doesn't want to separate its layers for editing; you know how it is....just when one needs time to spend on creativity, hours get sucked in trying to sort out the gremlins.
Well, I've had my 'whinge' for the day....guess I can join the grumpy old men programme:-)
Whatever you're doing...stick with it...it will work out in the end.

Tuesday, 13 February 2007

A new site just added

Well,
we've just added a new site to our collection .....http://www.coastalgardens.co.uk. Its only the home page, but its been a while getting to this point so we're quite excited, as there's so much more to come.
We've been using NetObjects Fusion for webpage production, and it does a really good job; but then we heard about Xsitepro, and wow....its so much easier to get where you're going. The new Working Solo site is going to cover more on the xsitepro programme...so watch out for it.
Cheers,
Andy

A New Start - A New Day!

Welcome to the first blog for Working Solo.
As we start to revamp the original site - we're looking forward to helping so many more people get started with their own online enterprise. There's just so much to show and tell that it's difficult to know what to put in and leave out:-)
This is such a far cry from the early days when we had Commodore VIC-20's and then the 64.A monthly magazine called 'Run' had various software printed in it, which one typed into the computer to get your game or application! Then came bulletin boards - remember Prodigy?
It was so much excitement to get online at 300bps (wow) and finally onto the early days of the internet....the first website with Geocities and then designing and uploading with all its trials and tribulations.
To be able to set up and get writing in just a few minutes with all the features that are now available to blog with, is just fantastic.....just as it is to use Xsitepro to create websites: the power is here to be used...I'll happily let others do the groundwork of designing and coding.
Let us know what you think, what you'd like to see or any questions you have - we'd love to help.
